Payments
Acadia Counseling accepts cash, checks, or credit card payments, including HSA/FSA cards. For ease of payment, you are encouraged to take advantage of our secure Client Portal; you can leave a card on file with us (utilizing encryption technology) and elect to put charges related to your care on AutoPay. All charges are processed the day after each session.
We are happy to bill your insurance plan directly if we are an in-network provider. You are responsible for all co-pays, co-insurances, and deductibles for your care with Acadia Counseling. If we happen to be out of network with your insurance plan, you are responsible for the full rate of care up front and can seek reimbursement from your insurer using a Statement or Superbill, provided by our office or downloaded from your secure Client Portal.
If you are utilizing insurance coverage and disagree with the Good Faith Estimate provided to you prior to your first session, please call the Customer Service number on the back of your insurance card to verify your expected out-of-pockets costs associated with our outpatient, office-based care.
If you have questions regarding the cost of sessions, you are welcome to reach out to our Billing & Payments team at info@acadiacounseling.com to discuss insurance, cash-pay, and payment plan options that may be available to you.
We believe in the value of mental health counseling and will do our very best to reduce financial barriers so you can access care that works for you!

Self-Pay (or cash-pay) Rates
Acadia Counseling hosts Master’s-level practicum and internship students on a regular basis at both locations. These Master’s students have completed their classroom learning and are perfecting their applied counseling skills as part of their degree requirements.
Individual Counseling : Ranging from $50 – $100 per 55-minute session
Couples Counseling : Ranging from $50 – $100 per 55-minute session
Family Counseling : Ranging from $50 – $100 per 55-minute session
All students are closely monitored by two independently-licensed counselors throughout the duration of their field experience and are required to participate in at least four hours of one-on-one and group supervision per week.
Unfortunately, students cannot bill insurance for their services. However, cash-pay rates for student sessions are set at an affordable rate of $25 per hour. To inquire about availability, please call our Louisville office at (502) 825-1375 or email info@acadiacounseling.com.
Good Faith Estimates (GFE)
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much therapy services will cost you. Under the law, health care providers (including counselors) need to give patients who are not utilizing insurance coverage to pay for services an estimate of the bill they should expect.
You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any services. Services are billed per session and those costs should have been covered and agreed upon verbally with your counselor prior to starting therapy.
Your counselor should provide a GFE in writing at least one business day before your first counseling session. You can also ask your counselor for a GFE before you start services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill. Make sure you save a copy or a picture of your GFE. For questions or more information about your right to a GFE, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
The provisions of the No Surprises Act apply only to those paying out-of-pocket and not utilizing insurance or EAP benefits. If you plan to use insurance or EAP benefits, you will not receive a Good Faith Estimate.
If you have any questions regarding payment for services or to schedule a session, please contact Denise Hutchins at Acadia Counseling here:
