Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours?

Acadia Counseling is generally open from 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, by appointment only. We do not accept walk-in appointments. Evening and weekend appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the discretion of each individual counselor. Please use our online scheduling tool to locate the date, time, counselor, and location that works best for you.

Where are you located?

Acadia Counseling has two office locations in Kentucky. Our Louisville office address is 4010 Dupont Circle, Suite B173 (basement level), Louisville, KY 40207. Our Murray address is 308 South 12th Street, Murray, KY 42071. We also provide telehealth counseling across the state to anyone with an established Kentucky address.

How long do sessions last?

Sessions typically last about 50-55 minutes.

How often can I be seen?

The frequency of sessions is dependent on your insurance company’s restrictions and severity of your symptoms. However, weekly or every-other-week sessions are typical.

How can I schedule an appointment?

Electronic:  At the top of every page there is a green button that reads “Request Appointment”.  Select “New Patient” and you will be guided to a calendar where you can select your preferred appointment date/time with your preferred therapist, either virtually or in-person. Upon receiving your appointment request through the online portal, we will respond with a confirmation email and a request to complete (entirely online) a few necessary legal and practice documents.  It is important that these documents are completed at least 24 hours BEFORE your first session.

By Phone:  You can call (502) 825-1375 to request an appointment.  Once an appointment date/time is selected, we will respond with a confirmation email and a request to complete (entirely online) a few necessary legal and practice documents through our online client portal.  It is important that these documents are completed at least 24 hours BEFORE your first session.

What do I need to bring with me to my first session?

The only piece of information that will be needed in your first session (if you have not already uploaded through the client portal) is your insurance card and method of payment.

How many sessions will it take for me to feel better?

That is a tough question to answer because everyone responds differently to therapy interventions and each is tailored specifically to you and your situation. While some individuals feel better rather quickly, others take longer. A lot of factors play a role in the duration of your therapy experience. Your therapist would be happy to speak with you about it at your first session.

Can I talk to my therapist before scheduling an initial appointment?

Yes! We encourage potential clients to speak with us ahead of time to be sure there is a good match between client and therapist. These phone calls are brief, usually lasting 5-10 minutes. Just give us a call at (502) 825-1375 and we will return your call as soon as possible.

What is your Client Portal and how do I use it?

Acadia Counseling utilizes an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system called SimplePractice. A feature of the EHR is the SimplePractice Client Portal, a completely free client-focused app.

The SimplePractice Client Portal mobile app lets you securely manage care on the go, including viewing or requesting appointments, making payments, sending Secure Messages, and completing intake paperwork.

You can get the “SimplePractice Client Portal” app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Alternatively, you can always navigate to the Acadia Counseling website (https://www.acadiacounseling.com) and select “Client Portal” from the menu at the top of the home page.

How do I log on to my virtual session with my counselor?

You have three ways to connect with your counselor for your virtual appointment if you are utilizing the Simple Practice telehealth platform:

  1. When your virtual appointment is scheduled, you will be sent a system-generated email that contains a link to your virtual appointment. You will also receive a reminder email 48 hours prior to your appointment that also includes the same link. Either can be used to log on using your web browser and you may want to set aside extra time just before your meeting to troubleshoot any device compatibility issues.
  2. You can access your virtual appointment through the “SimplePractice Client Portal” app, available from the App Store or the Google Play Store.
  3. You can access your virtual appointment through the “Telehealth by SimplePractice” app on iOS or Android.

If you and your counselor agree to utilize another HIPAA-compliant platform (such as Zoom), your counselor will email or text you the link to use for your session.
