Affordable counseling in Louisville, Murray and across Kentucky

Cost shouldn’t keep you from getting support.

Counseling is worth it, and it also has to fit your budget. Acadia Counseling offers two lower-cost ways to start. You can see a supervised counselor in training for $25 a session, in Louisville, in Murray or by telehealth. Or, if you have Kentucky Medicaid, you can see one of our licensed counselors using your plan. Both options are taking new clients.

$25 sessions with supervised counselors

Deborah Marasa, Kelsey Hamilton and Sarah Smith are counselors in training. They are completing the supervised clinical work that comes before licensure, and licensed counselors at Acadia supervise their work every week. Insurance doesn’t cover sessions with counselors in training, so their sessions are self-pay at $25.

Each one has a different focus:

  • Deborah Marasa (Louisville and telehealth) works with adults and couples, including first responders, military clients, PTSD and EMDR.
  • Kelsey Hamilton (Louisville and telehealth) works with adults, especially young adults 18 to 25, new parents and people facing life transitions or marriage questions.
  • Sarah Smith (Murray and telehealth) works with teens 14 and up, adults, couples and families on anxiety, depression, mood and life transitions, using CBT and DBT.

What supervised counseling means for you

Supervision means a licensed counselor regularly reviews your counselor’s work and helps guide it. You’ll meet with your own counselor for sessions of about 50 to 55 minutes, the same length as sessions with a licensed counselor. At your first session, your counselor will explain how supervision works, including who may review your care.

Supervised counseling can be a good fit for everyday stress, life changes, relationship questions, anxiety and low mood. If your needs call for a licensed counselor, your counselor or our office will help you find the right fit.

Six of them are taking new clients. John Bush sees clients in Louisville. Megan Higashimura and Anna Miller see clients in Murray. Charlene McDonald, Brittany Elkins and April Cornett work by telehealth. All six also offer telehealth. Read about counseling with Kentucky Medicaid.

Other ways to keep costs down

  • Use your EAP. If your employer offers an employee assistance program, it may cover a set number of sessions. See which EAPs we take.
  • Use HSA or FSA funds. We accept HSA and FSA cards.
  • Ask about out-of-network benefits. If we’re out of network with your plan, ask for a superbill to send to your insurer.
  • Ask for a Good Faith Estimate. If you’re paying for yourself, you have the right to a written estimate before you start.
  • Choose telehealth. Meeting online can save gas, parking and time away from work.

If you’d rather see a licensed counselor and pay for yourself, self-pay rates range from $50 to $100. Among licensed counselors taking new clients, April Cornett has the lowest rate, $65, by telehealth.
